I am writing this article from an Overseas Filipino Worker's point of view. I have been working here in Singapore for almost two years now. Hence, I can't help but compare the efficiency that the Singapore government do have versus that in the Philippines. Literally speaking, the Philippine government and its politicians are way far behind from Singapore. While the Singapore politician's motto has been to serve the people, the Philippine politician's motto has been to save the people's money to their own pockets. It is just a sad reality that the Philippine's government and politicians are moving backward. From its previous spot as the second progressive country in Asia(second only to Japan), now we are near the bottom of the race of progress. When will our politicians change???
It enflames me whenever I see the news at TV Patrol(through the TFC Channel). Most of the news are either bad news or sad news. News that leaves me with a sight of despair and shame of the country where I came from. Just recently, I have watched the development of the ZTE deal. How I quenched with anguish after hearing the alleged giving off of the Philippines' territorial rights over Spratleys to China in exchange to a "monetary package" that included the ZTE deal. If indeed correct, then it will not be a surprise if one day, the country named Philippines will be erased from the world map(sold to the highest bidder!). If that will be the case, then, maybe that will be much of a better option rather than allowing our current Philippine Politicians to reign our Country.
Whenever some of my Singaporean colleagues asked me about the recent bad news that they have heard of the Philippines, I just give them some shrug. A shrug since even I no longer have the courage to provide them any good reason why those things happened in the Philippines. Things such as why our Government agencies always declare that they are short of funds despite the taxes that are being given by the people. Why despite the borrowed money from foreign countries, projects are still out of sight? Why despite our country being empoverish, our politicians still managed to tour across Europe? Why me, despite being an Engineer, still needs to work overseas? So many why's without any clear answers to give.
As the next coming events unfold in the Philippines, I do hope that some good news arise before I fully lose my Filipino PRIDE...
