Ignorance of all Living Things...

Everyone of us starts with a simple crave,
To get simple things that will make us happy.
Unfortunately, as we mature in knowledge,
Everyone of us starts to seek for a complicated crave,
To get impossible things that will, in the end, make us sad...
Life is so short,
So be simple and be happy!=)

The Convergence....

Surging from all directions,
Every nook and position,
Abundance of varying colors,
Once mixed forms one distinction.

Dynamism at its peak,
Churning out of this corner,
Growling loud as ever,
The Merlion deep within.

Go Singapore go!

Phone Cards...

Coming from a typical Filipino family, the observance of a "Close Family Ties" tradition is a norm. It has been a common practice for me and my brother to call our parents back in the Philippines once a month. In so doing, we were able to collect phone cards of the places that we have been to.

Greece Phone Card(worth 4.00euro)

Greece Phone Card(worth 5.00euro)

Italy Phone Card (worth 5.00euro)

Italy Phone Card (worth 5.00euro)

France Phone Card (worth 7.50euro)

France Phone Card (worth 7.62euro)

Denmark Phone Card (worth not stated..)

England Phone Card (worth not stated..)

Spain Phone Card (worth 5.00euro)

"Close Family Ties" will always be a part of the Filipino Tradition...The vast need for Filipinos to go out of the country(Philippines) to work doesn't mean that this tradition will be forgotten. It just evolved through the accompaniment of technology...

The art of drawing...

Drawing is the art of doing gibberish scribbling of a medium, such as a pencil, onto any surface to create masterpieces.

Melodies of a Tune...

Missing someone Dear to me, i have scribbled out these words in this sunny afternoon here in Singapore. I'm sending this to YOU, for YOU happens to be that special someone that is so Dear to me....

Melodies of a Tune
by Gerald Follero-Tan Eduardo

If this feeling that i'm having right now,
Can be translated into a song,
It will go with a tune,
That will reach every soul,
And will touch every heart...
Hoping that one of those soul is YOU,
Wishing that one of those heart belongs to YOU.

There is not enough words,
There is no precise adjectives,
That i can best describe,
This AFFECTION that i have for YOU.
Not even the highest mountain,
Not even the deepest sea,
Can quantify my LOVE for YOU...

The tune of this song,
The heartbeat of my heart.
The words of this tune,
The longing that i'm having inside.
Until when will i sing,
Until when will i wait,
Before this song reaches your heart......

My Fading Filipino Pride...

by Gerald Follero-Tan Eduardo

I am writing this article from an Overseas Filipino Worker's point of view. I have been working here in Singapore for almost two years now. Hence, I can't help but compare the efficiency that the Singapore government do have versus that in the Philippines. Literally speaking, the Philippine government and its politicians are way far behind from Singapore. While the Singapore politician's motto has been to serve the people, the Philippine politician's motto has been to save the people's money to their own pockets. It is just a sad reality that the Philippine's government and politicians are moving backward. From its previous spot as the second progressive country in Asia(second only to Japan), now we are near the bottom of the race of progress. When will our politicians change???

It enflames me whenever I see the news at TV Patrol(through the TFC Channel). Most of the news are either bad news or sad news. News that leaves me with a sight of despair and shame of the country where I came from. Just recently, I have watched the development of the ZTE deal. How I quenched with anguish after hearing the alleged giving off of the Philippines' territorial rights over Spratleys to China in exchange to a "monetary package" that included the ZTE deal. If indeed correct, then it will not be a surprise if one day, the country named Philippines will be erased from the world map(sold to the highest bidder!). If that will be the case, then, maybe that will be much of a better option rather than allowing our current Philippine Politicians to reign our Country.

Whenever some of my Singaporean colleagues asked me about the recent bad news that they have heard of the Philippines, I just give them some shrug. A shrug since even I no longer have the courage to provide them any good reason why those things happened in the Philippines. Things such as why our Government agencies always declare that they are short of funds despite the taxes that are being given by the people. Why despite the borrowed money from foreign countries, projects are still out of sight? Why despite our country being empoverish, our politicians still managed to tour across Europe? Why me, despite being an Engineer, still needs to work overseas? So many why's without any clear answers to give.

As the next coming events unfold in the Philippines, I do hope that some good news arise before I fully lose my Filipino PRIDE...

How Filipinos Cope in Singapore...

There are now a number of Filipinos working here in Singapore. They have mingled and communed to Singapore's intertwining cultures, languages, and races. To some, the experience gave them a happy and momentus one. While others, the experience gave them some sad and unfortunate events...

Amidst all these, it is a sight to see throngs of Filipino people at the Lucky Plaza every Saturday and Sunday. You should see how we literally fill the building and its small space outside.Aha! Lucky Plaza(located along Orchard Road) is known here as the "Palengke".This is the mall where several Philippine remittance stalls are located. These remittance stalls(such as the iRemit http://www.myiremit.com/, BTI http://www.eguide.com.sg/company-114598-btipesosexpress-Singapore,Asia.html, Metro, Western Union http://corporate.westernunion.com/asia_pacific.html) allow the Filipino worker to send his or her hard earned income to his loved ones in the Philippines. With the Filipinos flocking this mall, it is no wonder why most of the ads here are in Tagalog.Gee! A Mall specifically for Filipinos here in Singapore!

As a new comer in Singapore, one of the challenges are the local foods. Most of their foods are served superbly Hot! Hot with those red tidbits of chilli that have been sprinkled on your food. Whew!!! My Singaporean friends say that these chilli are meant to be medecinal...Aarrggghh!!!! Indeed, it helped in oozing out some liquids out of my eyelids and my nose! So far, I have learned to be fast enough in telling the Auntie or the Uncle the "No Chilli please!" phrase. By the way, the word Uncle or Auntie here does not mean that he or she is a relative. It is their lingo in addressing an old lady or an old man whose real name is unknown.

In the short span that I have stayed here, I have seen how the Filipinos transform, adopting the different world that is Singapore. They accepted the strict policies, they became a good citizen to this foreign land...Hence, I wonder... Aren't our laws in the Philippines that strict enough? Or, are we too lacks to implement and to accept laws that are intended to give some betterment to our country?

Soul Searching...

Images While trying to spend this boring night here in Singapore, a spark within my mind came…Remembering those years of yesterday…

In search for a note,
I found a tune.
In search for a tune,
I found melodies.
Melodies that soothe,
One’s troubled soul.
For within those melodies,
Are memories of yesterday.
Reverberating through my mind,
This lost jewel of my heart.
Always Lending Joy, Encouragement, And Nirvana
To this restless soul,
That I have become.

Somewhere in this lonely road...

Quenching with sweat,
With the sun on top,
While dusk of dawn,
Beyond the horizon awaits.
I alone walks,
In this long lonely road,
Savoring blisters and memories,
Of the roads that I have passed.
Looking beyond,
The road still having no end,
And neither does the weather,
Seems to favor by my side.
I walk with trembling knees,
Releasing every force that remains,
For I have no other choice,
But to walk in this long lonely road....
